RE: Dave's Garden

Have you ever watched the Ellen Degeneres? DG is the riff-raff room. Spend your $15 somewhere else in your business. So, thumbs down from my little corner of the world.

For free you can sign up to a couple listserves. Many experts in this field post on these; and, there's usually alot of information sharing. These are delivered to your email address on a daily basis. Word of caution though: use an email address where you don't mind Spam mail. I think New Farm has eliminated some of the problem; however, we were receiving at least a dozen or so every day.

Here are those two links:

http://www.hightunnels.org/

Also, Lucy from Boulder Belt Farm has a blog where she shares lots of information with her fellow growers. She also posts here on GW as well as the above two listserves. One more point if I may, Lucy has many links to other market farmers on her blog. Many a day this winter I've found myself wandering around in the blog world. So much information out there.

Here is Lucy's link to her blog:

Fellow flower farmer
So we are members of the riff raff room are we?
I have watched this post for several days and feel that I
must respond.
I have been a member of Daves Garden since 2001 and have yet
to meet anyone that could be even remotely classified as
riff raff.
My dictionary defines riff raff as a disparaging term for the
common people, also, disreputable, worthless, rubbish, trash, and a few others.
2007 begins my 21st year as a market farmer and there are
several others like me that post on DG Market Farmer Forum.
What is it that elevates a person to such a lofty perch
from which he/she can look down his/her nose and call others
ugly names?
If you are too price sensitive, cost conscious or just cannot afford the nominal fee that Dave charges, I will pay
it for you. Just consider it as a "get acquainted" gift.
I can be reached via the Garden Web or Daves Garden.

Bud

well said bud, i just did not know how to say it

in review i would say daves is or gets more traffic than here

RE: Dave's Garden

What I REALLY appreciate about DG is the Garden Watchdog where most garden mailorder companies are rated by the people who've purchased, and this is available without even paying the fee. I thought about joining and paying just as a way to communicate my appreciation of the watchdog feature.

Here is a link that might be useful: Dave's garden watchdog

RE: Dave's Garden

I have been lurking at Dave's garden for a month and I have not had to pay anything. I am thinking about joining though. I find it informative and it covers many topics.
Homesteading today also has a new Market Garden forum if you are interested.

Hey, Bud! ~~ Waving ~~ I've been a member of Dave's Garden since 2001, too, and find it a very active and warm group of people. It is a good compliment to GW. We've made a lot of real-world friends through DG and find the tools for finding local information invaluable.

 o
RE: Dave's Garden

Hey gw
A pretty darn good show of support for a bunch of "riff raff",don't you think?
Bud

RE: Dave's Garden

I guess I'm part of the riff raff, too-not a market gardener, yet, but I work in a garden center-I think Dave's Garden is great & think the subscription fee is well worth it...Linda

RE: Dave's Garden

Another riff raff here as well. The Garden Watchdog has been extremely helpful to me. I have learned a great deal from other members. Molly

RE: Dave's Garden

Big mistake to discount posters at this forum, Dave's or similiar forums as "riff-raff". You never know. Just because someone asks basic questions about dahlias or growing for market, for instance, doesn't mean they aren't very accomplished in another much more demanding field. And even if they aren't, if someone is young or curious or a hobbyist who enjoys light banter, it's good business and common decency to encourage and praise ,not to try to diminish others.

Lucy has changed the address of her blog. It's linked below.

RE: Dave's Garden

I've been a member of Dave's Garden now for two years. I find it helpful to research gardening supply companies and for information on plants.

BTW - I am not a professional grower but someone who gardens for a hobby, has a professional degree, and whose background includes several generations of Garden Club members. Calling someone riff-raff because they frequent a gardening web site is a little much.

 o
RE: Dave's Garden

..more riff-raff chiming in here. I've belong to DG since '01. I am a professional grower,(retired landscaper)..both ornamental potted plants, produce and on a small scale, cut flowers.

Even though I'm a professional grower,I certainly don't consider myself an expert and still ask lots of question. To ask questions is to learn and grow.

Hi,
I went to Dave's garden 1 time and now the site wont let me back on any ideal Why ????

 o
RE: Dave's Garden

I know this is an old thread, but I was bored so I'm chiming in. I don't think Flowerfarmer meant that Dave's forum and people are "riff raff" in the dictionary sense of the term. for the little that I understand the Ellen Show to work, they actually have a room, a space where the audience waits till being put in the studio, called "the Riff Raff Room". That is also where they cherry pick who is going to be allowed through the door and possibly on camera. From my internet wanderings and talking to others, that's not a half bad assesment of that other forum. They simply may be more choosy in whom they allow to stay or what is a bannable offense. Different forum, different rules.

RE: Dave's Garden

As a 4 year subscriber @ Dave's I have encountered no censorship. We tend to have a very polite, tolerant, and respectful environment in our forums, but that is due to the quality of our posters. It's not due to censorship. :)

We have quite a few professionals who share their advice freely. Many of our regulars contribute articles. The plantfiles database is highly informative, and the garden watchdog is fantastic -- my opinion only, of course.

C'mon over and check us out. I find most DG posters to be exceptionally nice people. :)

Peace,

-Joe G.
