What does well in newly tilled sod?

I'd like to put some of my gardens (50 X 50) in cover crops this year, so will need to till up new sod areas to plant. What things have you found will do well in that situation among veggies and/or cut flowers? Thanks. Ann

If you are looking for a crop, not just cover, potatoes do well in newly-tilled sod.

butternut squash, broccoli, tomatoes, okra, leeks but potatoes would probably do best

Ugh. Been there, done that. Don't expect to use anything like an Earthway seeder this year; it can't deal with the clods. All planting will be done by hand, and transplants have a better chance of succeeding than direct-seeded crops.

If you work in a lot of organic matter (compost), I can't see anything not doing well.

Don't potatoes have trouble with wireworms, which are supposed to be bad in areas just taken out of grass? I know we had a lot of them last year and they played merry heck with the lettuce!
