I learned my lesson years ago, certified seed IS worth the money.

But, if you feel the need, buy a bag and stick some in the ground. They will likely grow.

Our customers like fingerlings for potato salad and we grew the varieties that were noticibly waxy. So I'd experiment and see how various types taste to you and go with the one you think will give you "something different" advantage. Tom

I bought some from the grocery store to try and plant. They took forever to sprout, like all growing season. Some even looked just like the day I planted them. Learned the trick with treated potatoes...Expose them to the light. I save my own seed now but if I had to do it again I could. Hang them in the light about 8 weeks before you plant them. I don't even bother taking them out of the little mesh bags. If it's raining and not going to freeze I'll hang them in the rain. I bring them in for the night and put them in a sunny window. Eventually nature wins and they sprout.
