i've been using soil blocks for many years. they have worked well for me. i use them for anything i start from seed in the greenhouse. i also have a small block maker that makes 20 blocks at a time and that has worked very well for lettuce.

cool randy... I figured the ONLY way I`d give lettuce the proper spacing is to transplant it. I have no problems thinning in a pot or soilblock but I`ll be damned if I can do it from direct seeding. Lol... Love nicely spaced neat looking beds- what can I say. It`s so much easier to run a hoe through a bed if it`s set up right.

A couple of years ago we started using coir in the soil mix. I find the coir hard to use to make blocks but I like the coir blocks more than peat in the end because coir is hydophilic and no hydrophobic like peat
