Could I get some pictures of your first cold frame made with cattle panels? I have a bunch of them and would likes to erect one this weekend to harden off my pepper plants. I live on a hill like you do and the winds blow most of the time so was yours able to withstand the wind alright?

Yes it stood up to the wind. It was a good little building and it served its purpose.

Here is a picture of the pair of buildings that I first build 4 years ago. The cattle panel one is on the right.

It was pretty simple to make. Make a rectangle wood box the size you want. Dig a hole in each corner and set a 4 by 4 post. I went 3 feet deep. Bend your cattle panel to fit on the inside, put pipe insulation, old garden hose or something on the end to protect if from poking the plastic.

Here is the building after I pulled it out of the ground to make room for a larger building.

Hope this helps.

It sure does. Thank you! I've read where bubble wrap (the large bubbles kind) is put on before the greenhouse plastic helps hold the heat better. Have you ever tried that with the smaller coldframes?

Never tried it. I would guess you would be better off to set a small heater in there. Especially if you are just using it for a short time.

Jay, How big is that hoophouse? I assume you used the full 16 foot panel, but that looks like a good size space. Could you stand up inside?

The cattle panel one was 8 by 12. It took 3 panels to make. You could just barely stand up in the middle. If you wanted to, you could make it 7 foot wide and gain some head room.

Thanks Jay. You could always come up higher with the boards and create a raised bed and mount the cattle panel higher, couldn't you? I live in an area with very wet Springs so I think that might be best for me.
