Raspberry profitability

Hi all, I am a student in Montana (from WI orginally) working on an integrated pest management project for raspberries for my plant pathology course. I'm trying to find out what the profit margins are for raspberries so I can determine how much would be reasonable to spend controlling diseases, insects, etc. I'd really like to hear estimates about how much it typically costs to grow raspberries and how much profit can be made with them. Also there seems to be a variety of ways to market raspberries -- pick your own, value-added, farmer's markets -- and I'd be interested to hear the advantages and disadvantages of those. And mechanical raspberry harvesting: how expensive is the machinery, and how common is that? Thanks in advance!

RE: Raspberry profitability

You're asking for a lot of information that will vary from area to area. Have you researched in some of the university sites? They often publish their research information.

The only cash expense we've had is the purchase of canes and the quart pulp boxes. Labor is another thing. Canes take work to maintain in a manageable plot. We sell our berries for $4 a quart. The link below might be helpful.

Here is a link that might be useful: Google Search
