Easy Sign Idea

| I wanted to get a sandwich board to put on the sidewalk in front of my booth to catch some attention. After checking them out online, I was not going to pay 65+ for one.
Then I came up with an idea. I saw folding plastic sawhorses at the hardware store. The were almost the same size and shape. The two pack cost $20. I attached a piece of white tile board, AKA white board, attached it with some small machine bolts and done! It only cost me $25 and I have two. I will take a picture of them this weekend to show everyone.
Just an idea,

| Please do post the pics. I am starting to think about signage and we are so busy getting the rest of things going as this is our first year (hoophouses, well, plowing fields, seed starting, planting, etc the list goes on,LOL). that we could use some quick and inexpensive ides as the money keeps flying out the door. |

| It is very easy to make banners with some canvas and iron on fabric for t-shirts. Use printshop to design a banner. Print it and iron it on. sew(or glue) a pocket for rope to hang it. You can also use iron on to design a banner on a sheet to use as a tablecloth. Not much cost! They make the iron on fabric for both light and dark fabrics. It doesn't was forever but I have tablecloths make from twin sheets($3) that are a couple years old. |

| Here is the picture of the market sign I made. The two sawhorses cost $20 at Home Depot/Lowes/Harbor Freight. There are more expensive ones, but I am not planning on using them as anything but signs. The white board material was free from my wifes work. They were throwing it out. The four screws and nuts on each side cost a 25 cents a piece. So for $11 each and about 15 minutes of time, I have some nice signs. I would have written in Black or Blue, but I left them at home, oops! I only had green.

| Thanks for posting this great idea! I too have been looking at the cost of the sandwich boards and I just didn't want to pay that much. I'm going to print this out & show DH. (its not like I have to twist his arm to go to Lowe's or Home Depot lol). Thanks very much! |

| We made one out of a 4x8 sheet of plywood, piano hinge (from lowe's), and a short piece of chain and a 2x4 treated. Cut the plywood in half to get 2 pieces that are 4x4.You could also cut them to 3x4 if you want a narrower sign. Nail or screw the 2x4's across the edges and leave some sticking out on the bottom for legs to keep the plywood off the ground. Install the piano hinge over the top so it hinges. Install the short piece of chain with a couple of screws so that the sign won't accidentally open too far. Then we bought some 2" wide industrial velcro from ebay and stuck it in stripes across the sign. We can then print words with our printer and laminate them and use the other half of the velcro to stick the words on the sign. Easy to change. We use this at the end of the driveway, and can change it in a hurry when we sell out of corn, etc or want to put things on sale. I think we have like $40 in it including paint and laminate pouches and all. |

| We have used marlite, that siding for bathroom showers. One year we had 1 4x8 piece into 3 pieces, drilled hole in the corners then hung the 'board' with bungees onto our canopy. The problem with it was, I could not find a place that I wasn't standing in front of the sign. Now, we use index cards with binder clips. Our boxes are 25# tomato boxes that we have used for several seasons. Once the box gives up, after duct taping around the top, we just either mow over it(making mulch) or burn it. The boxes get used for at least 3-5 years after getting tomatoes in it. (some restaurants will give you the old boxes). |

| I used a drill for the holes in the corners, but had the store cut the board for me. I don't use saws very well. We have tried double faced tape with the index cards this year, and I think we will stay with it. It was so hard to 'clip' a sign onto pumpkin stems. A few years, someone used push pins for their watermelon, cantalope and pumpkins, but I feel that damages the produce and introduces bateria. I'm not sure how 'organic' the tape is, but it has to be better than the push pins. I buy my tape and index cards, along with sharpie markers at Sams Club. A pack of 10 packs of 3x5 index cards are less than $5, thats about 1,000 cards for $5 or less. Sorry, I'M CHEAP. and it's bio-degradable. |
