We have 2 farmers markets that does this. I don't know if it helps or not. I've just started using one of them, but nobody has mentioned that they've seen any of my postings.

I just search for vinalhaven grown and unless you have the entire name, it doesn't come up. Just FYI.

Once I got in, it was a good start. I don't know facebook very well, but have you 'hooked up' with localharvest.org? If not, do so. I have had some luck with people finding me with them, even old relatives that I hadn't seen for years.

I did a website, but it took forever before any search engines picked it up. Facebook does now.

Post LOTS of pics and announcements. Even if you don't see customers from it soon, you may later.

Make business cards with the name of your Facebook page (or better, the actual web address) and ask people to "Like" the page to stay updated on what's fresh at the market. Ask every vendor to have a stack to give away. Word of mouth will do the rest.

to recruit FB friends go into the page as yourself (not as the page owner) and in the upper right is a drop down menu bar that has among other things "Build Audience" Click on that and that will give a page with all your friends on it and all you have to do is click on the names/pictures and send an invitation. You can also copy and past the link to the page in your status. You can also copy and paste that URL into any email, this site, etc..

You also need to post several times a day for the page to start showing up on friends' feeds along with FB search (I don't know how this works but I noticed when I started doing 4+ posts a day on my FB page the membership started growing).

We just had our business cards done a couple of weeks ago with Facebook as the only contact.

I definitely should be posting more often as BB mentioned.

We use facebook buy and sell and it seems to work well for us, although we start using it about 2 months ago .
( Not only for veggies )

Magz, love your card, thanks for sharing. I may try something simple like that. It seems when someone calls, I'm in an area that my cell phone doesn't like, so posting the facebook link is a great idea. I know there are people that are not on facebook yet, but I would guess that 75% are.

I forgot to mention that Twitter appears to be more popular amongst our vendors than Facebook. You might want to explore that option in parallel.

With the pages on Facebook even if a person hasn't joined Facebook they can still read the posts and access contact information if you choose to add it.
