Selling woodland medicinals? (black cohosh, ginseng etc.)

I've heard that you can sell for a good price "woodland" medicinals like ginseng.... I have a good size patch of woods and was wondering if I could try it.... I've heard some of these medicinals are harvested from the wild and it hurts the wild population so some are encouraging "farming" of such medicinals.... I read that it is often done on a "small scale" I think I could do that..... Does anyone know the first thing about this? Where you obtain stock of these plants to grow? and how you sell them? If there are any usda standards for selling ginseng etc. and who do you sell it to?

My Granddad used to do this. He was a real master woodsman. I have fond memories of tromping the woods with him and he was a wealth of information that is regretably long lost to our generation.
Have you considered online marketing for this? or any of the many independant herbalists who may like a non-cultivated but truely native sorce? I know my Granddad tried growning some natives in his garden one year to increase his supply. The buyer took one look and laughed at it and offered him 1/3 the price. He said he had no idea how they knew, but apparently to the decerning eye, it makes a lot of difference and they are willing to pay for the real thing.

Check out woodsgrown.com for stock. I have used them in the past with great results. They sell wild simulated, the most valuable of method of growing ginseng.

My name is Billy Caudill and I dig alot of cohosh (300lb-400lb a week).I've been selling it to local herb buyers but i feel like I have been getting ripped off.I clean, chop, and dry it for $2.00 a pound.Considering the dangers of the wild, snakes, cliffs, wild animals, ticks, ect I am looking for a much better price.I live in a small town in K.Y. and understand that I will without a dout have too transport my roots to larger buyers.I would like anyone who has any information to contact me.My mailing address is 121 White ash R.D. Beattyville K.y. zipp 41311.Please contact me A.S.A.P.
