Planting for fall sales?

Hi! I've been working markets for several years. The last few years I've worked a very, very succesful market located about 60 miles from me, but because of gas prices have given that one up. Now I am doing our local community market (13 miles away) and have done well there this year. I have a small commercial dahlia farm, so sell mostly dahlia tubers, started dahlia plants and a few other plants. In the last year I've really gotten into succulents (both hardy and not)and my son grows herbs and vegetables. It used to be I only worked the few first markets in spring - till dahlia planting was done, then came back when the flowers started blooming. However, this year we are trying to grow enough things to work it through the full summer. I live in Southwest Washington - Castle Rock to be exact.

I'm wondering what kind of seeds would be best to plant now for plants to sell in the latter part of the season. I am thinking of making living wreaths to sell, also. Thanks for any help.

Teresa

RE: Planting for fall sales?

We sell pumpkins, squash and etc at our pumpkin roadside stand and are open in the fall til Halloween. I always try and carry decorative items that mix in.
Along with the produce we also sell broomcorn/sorghum bundles, grapevine wreaths and other fall wreaths, bittersweet, mum plants, ornamental grass in pots, and dried gourds.

Some of the things I have yet to try and raise or sell are
dwarf sunflowers in pots, decorative flowering kale plants, ornamental peppers in pots, oat/wheat bundles, popcorn, dried amaranthus, dried strawflowers, dried celosia and dried grasses (like bunny tails).

I know that at this time of summer its too late to grow some of these crops but I hope that there are a few ideas you can go with this summer or future years.
