ivy, this is such a big question that I don't think anyone wants to begin to try to start to answer.
First, find out what the law is regarding licensing and transortation or plant material.
Second, make sure you are not propagating something other than the plant. We like to think our stock is clean, but are you sure?
third, read up on marketing if you like. The ways to find clients are as numerous as the clients themselves.

It all depends on what state you live in. Luckily I live in a state with very relaxed laws concerning ornamentals. I sell rooted cuttings and seedlings from the flowering plants in my yard. But I sell at the local flea market - I don't want people coming into my yard nor do I want them parking on my street or knowing where I live. I find it easier to sell more plants by going to where the people already are rather than trying to get people to come to where I am.

Same here - luckily, i live only 2 miles from where our local flea market is held - will be taking a couple of loads of plants up there later this afternoon!

Check with your local town/county offices. Some rural areas have no problem with selling things from your property, others may.
Propagations are fine if you know what you are propagating but beware of Patented plants - these are prohibited.

Perhaps a very small scale, but next to my house there is somebody who has always a few plants to sell in front of his house and you put the money in the letter box

Hi Englishivy,

I sell tomatos from my home, I live in Missouri -- out in the country next to a slightly busy road. I just set a small table next to the entry of my drive way with a can for people to put their money in. I've had good luck with this. Try it!
