yes, they last with some care, a good 15 years and they save a lot of time

yes. get it and you will never regret having it. i have the 5 gallon orange one and just some periodic cleaning of the contact points and gears will keep you happily spinning. just don't buy it from johnnys where it costs twice as much as you could get it elsewhere.
rio-they spin the greens dry after you rinse them. product will then easily last a week with no water collecting at the bottom of the bag and ruining the greens. we use it for salad mix and braising mix.

Check craigslist. I picked up a used 5 gallon spinner from a caterer who was closing his business. I paid $30 for it.

You can do the same thing with an old washing machine. Take the agitator out (the center post) in the tub and and set it to spin. We triple rinse most of our greens and them put them in a mesh bag or we have this large mesh bag with an elastic top. Then once they have been washed, we put the whole bag in the washer and spin them out.

Just remember to put the drain in a bucket or you will be water all over. We usually spin out 3-5 pounds at a time. You could do more, but we find smaller batches dry better.

Salad spinner does a better job that a washing machine (or a mesh bag or baskets hung in trees and spun, etc..) and it takes up far less space.I have tried just about every method and fimd the salad spinner does a better and faster job than anything else. And it is a tax write off.

There weren't any on Craig's List but I bid on a used 5 gal on ebay. I should get that for $55.
Now don't anybody go bidding on it against me!!!
