No, I don't even keep track of income or expenses on the computer. I have a journal (composition book) and write down everything spent and everything that comes in (even trades).

I think Square has the cash register app. I have had anyone ask about credit cards this year at all. I have the capability, but everyone brings enough cash. We do have a bank across the street and our market is open during banking hours on Saturday.

I have just started using Crop Planner, a free program (still in beta - see link). I've only just started entering data so too early to tell how useful it will be but it has all the features of succession planning, greenhouse scheduling, row length etc that I think will be useful. Should at least help keep track of planting dates so I can compare next year.

Also just bought The Organic Farmer's Business Handbook by Richard Wiswall which comes with a CD full of spreadsheets for the economic side of things.

I'm just planning my first season (it's Winter here) and much as I like pen and paper I can't see myself keeping track of all this information without some spreadsheets. Should make it easier come tax time too, in theory.

Also or people who use excel or other spreadsheets there are actually quite a few farmers who share theirs. Over at Farm Hand Writes there are links to Josh Volks small farm plans, with formulas included.

And you can download a bunch from the Canadian Organic Growers I think. They match with the planning system in the book "Crop Planning for Organic Growers."

Let me know how you pan out with the software choices, I'm definitely interested in getting the planning and note taking part of farming working in the simplest way.
