planting carrots

Today was the first time I ever planted pelleted carrot seed. I used the beet plate (earthway seeder). I thought it was a little thick? ie I ran out of seed faster that I thought I would.

Is there a trick in planting pelleted carrot seed? Did I need to run as I planted. Like how some people put spinach in the beet plate and run to get a good seed stand.

Just wondering

RE: planting carrots

How far apart are the seeds? Beet seeds are larger than carrot pellets so it probably several at a time. Instead of running, it's easier to tape part of the hole closed so that fewer seeds drop at once.

It's important to keep pelleted seeds moist until they germinate. They dry out quickly. I use them for carrots. It eliminates most of the time I spending thinning.

Kristi
Johnny's has an Earthway plate for planting pelleted
carrot seed.
I have used the radish plate with good results. Tape over
every other hole if still too thick.
