Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has grown and sold stevia at the market. If so, in what form was it sold, --dried or fresh, plants or just leaves? I was thinking it would be sort of a novelty crop. Any info or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks, Maplea |

Stevia is a wonderful plant!!! People need to be educated on its use and availability. I only sell the plants as anything dried in my state is considered "processed" and requires a certified kitchen. I give a handout with each plant on it's culture and how to dry and use the leaves, information that I gleaned from a stevia cookbook. I don't know if you've grown it before, but don't waste your money on seeds. They're next to impossible to germinate. I keep mine going from year to year by cuttings and overwintering in pots in a greenhouse. Good Luck GP |

| While we're on the subject -don't mean to hijack- does any one have any personal experience as a diabetic whether it is safe to use or not. Was just wondering, as I thought my father might like to try it. I've heard some say it's safe and others say it isn't. Anyone? |

| You might get more response if you post the question outright, instead of hidden away on this thread. Jeanne |

I have sold stevia plants for the past several years at farmer's market and at herb festivals and usually offer them in 4" pots but have sold a few gallons. Last year there was a big market for them around here but this year, for some reason, the demand was much less and I am left with several flats that did not sell. I think the market for stuff like this is driven to some extent by what articles show up in national publications that the public is exposed to. If Martha Stewart (aka #570091)talks about it you can bet it will be in demand. Bob |
