I don't have raised beds, but after having 100-200' rows, I cut back to 50' and am happy I did so. At 50', you can add a soaker hose down the entire length without worry, most are at least that length.

50' is more convenient. 4' wide would be too wide for me to work the middle of the bed comfortably. long reach to clip lettuce leaves.

Do you mean actual raised beds with borders or just planting beds? I do 50 (actually 48) foot long by about 3.5 foot wide beds within my half acre. I have a main path down the middle both ways that is 4 feet. I think 50 feet is right.

Yes actual beds but with no borders. So I guess thats really just a planting bed...

I am planning on trying few different approaches.

1. ~2 beds I will till a few beds with a rototiller and immediately plant some fall bulbs in these.
2. ~6 Beds I will till and plant a fall cover crop(I am thinking about Johnny's Seeds fall manure mix).
3. ~6 beds I will till and cover with manure and straw through the winter to compost.
4. The remainder of the beds i want to mow short then cover with cardboard, grass, manure, straw, leaves (pretty much whatever I have available).
If my math is correct I can squeeze 16-20 50ftx4ft beds. In reality they will probably be 3.5ft wide with a 2.5feet pathway.

Then again all this can change as soon as I start tilling and building beds.

Just make sure that your aisles are wide enough for a wheelbarrow or wagon, they sure make it easier to transport the picking containers out of the garden. I like to have a vehicle width somewhere near, so I can have a truck/tractor will a larger flat wagon to carry the massive amounts that we would pick. by the time you pick all of it, you don't want to carry it back to the packing/washing shed. It's worked for me over the years.

I like the plans for the fall. There also is a non-dormant alfalfa that dies over winter in cold areas and then can be used as mulch to plant into. It is in Territorial.
