Best selling tomatoes

What types of tomatoes are your best selling tomatoes?

This year I only grew what was suppose to be Mr. Stripey Heirloom tomatoes (they turned out to be something else) and Grape tomatoes. The grape tomatoes barely sold at all. The Mr. Stripey's sold pretty well and everyone seemed to like them.

I don't like growing too many tomatoes because we don't like them ourselves so we hate being stuck with tons of extra tomatoes and I don't like seeing vegetables go to waste. I can't make up my mind what I want to grow next year. I have been thinking about Cherokee Purple since I have heard lots of good things about it.

RE: Best selling tomatoes

The past two years we have only been selling cherry tomatoes. People at our market love Sun Gold and Sun Sugar. We have found that the red varieties Olivade (olive shaped) and Favorita do well in our hoophouse. They are quite sweet and very popular with our customers.

RE: Best selling tomatoes

I have been selling for 4 year now. Red tomatoes always sell the best. I have tried many colors and red is King. With that said, Cherokee Purple are very popular too. I continue to grow different colors, probably will continue to, because if catches peoples eye and makes them stop. If they are interested in tomatoes and buy some red ones, I usually throw in another colored one and I usually make the sale again the next week.

Where I sell, people don't/won't pay higher prices for heirloom types. I think next year, I will grow more hybrids and less heirlooms. I get more dependable yields.

I grew Jetstar, BHN 640, Big Beef and Lemon Boy in my hoop building last year. They did great. People always told me they tasted wonderful. I guess if the customers are happy, then I am happy!

RE: Best selling tomatoes

My customers want big round red tomatoes. The best adapted tomato for my soil and climate is a hybrid determinate called Sunbeam. Don't waste garden space on the heirlooms unless you are willing to except low marketable yields and can get a higher price...Bob.
