| I'm wondering what sort of things people use as trellises.
The crops I'm considering going vertical with are especially cucumbers, but I'd like to hear about any low cost & strong options.
Have any good ideas?
In my area cattle panels are running $18.00/16ft, and concrete reinforcing wire is $69/100ft. |

i use regular old field fence with t posts about every 12'. i got a bunch used & purchased some. if i recall right its about $90 for 330'. years ago i made round cages out of it for tomatos but now i dont bother. i set the "fence" along the tomato row and weave the plants. |

| I bought cattle panels from scrap metal business for scrap price. Have also got dammaged ones from local farm and fleet store. |

| Has anyone tried the plastic type snow fence they use on construction jobs. It would be light to use but may sag to much. |

| I made a pvc hoop and put 2 x 4 mesh on it (not my first choice, I was recylcing freebie material). It worked well until it got overloaded and started to sag. Next year I'll use thicker pvc, schedule 40, and maybe just use parallel wires to avoid having fruit trapped above the mesh. It was great to have the fruit hanging in the tunnel for easy picking. |
