Miniature pumpkins

Are pumpkins like Jack be Little, Munchkin, ect. good to eat? I want to start growing a one serving size pumpkin that can be stuffed.

Of course they are edible, but you probably already knew that, right?
Considering it took me 2 seconds to google it.

Certain varieties are edibles and others are not recommended. A good one, from I have heard is the "baby bear". Supposed to be very sweet pumpkin flavor. Cook by cutting out the stem and scooping the seeds and then filling with butter, put the stem back on and bake til tender. Sounded good and simple to me, but I haven't been able to try them.

I know either Jack Be Little or Wee Be Liitle are edible, but the other one is decorative only. Be sure to check with your seed supplier on which ones are edibles. Most of the time, when they recommend not eating, it is because there is not enough 'meat' to make it worth while.

the distinction is edible vs. palatable. sometimes that depends on the chef, sometimes the grower. Jack be little is tasty, well worth a single-serving market as a savory side (think sausage stuffing) or a dessert custard, (in the shell, with creme fraiche and caramel).

There is one, getting catalog...
Baby Bear from Pinetree says it is a cute small pumpkin that is also flavorful. It is under 2# and 5 inches in diameter. Just remember when they are that small there isn't much to eat on them. Also baby bear has semi hullless seeds.

That's the one I was talking about, it's a single serve. Open it up, scoop out seeds, add butter, reinstall cap and bake til tender.

I'll be growing a small Sugar Pie Pumpkin this year. I guess it may be considered larger than a single serving pumpkin since it grows to about 8-10" in diameter. Its just about right for one pie though.
