sowing in wet soil means you will upset the tilth of the soil for at least a year and often for several years. I have done it with usually pretty poor success as seeds will rot and you do harm the soil structure a lot for a long time. if there is any way to avoid this or if you can do it all by hand and not involve any equipment, including trowels. You can try putting big sheets of plastic over the beds to keep the next rains off of them. We have done this many times during wet seasons and it works quite well

I was just going to plant by sticking seeds in with my hands as it's a small patch.

I have been working the soil a bit this week, only with rakes and trying to keep it loose but i have been wondering about the damage.. Sounds like i should back off a bit til it dries out, tricky when there's so much that needs doing at this time of year.

Will have a think about whether I can make the plastic work too... Sounds like a good idea

i think if the tillage is complete (you can't work mud)and the temps are going to be as high as you say they are this would be the best time to plant. your soil condition (well drained?plenty of organic matter?)needs to be considered.

If it is really wet, I would use boards to lay down to walk on, along side of what I wanted to plant. Just a tip.
