Does anyone rent farmland?

I'm hoping to rent around an acre to grow for the farmer's market next year. Does anyone have any experience in doing this? How do I go about finding a farmer willing to let me use an acre?? I'm in the Toronto area...any thoughts on this would be welcome.

RE: Does anyone rent farmland?

Before we bought our farm 10 years ago , I used to rent land from two different people. A one acre parcel near the river cost me a bushel of oranges and occasional fresh produce during the growing season. A larger parcel nearby cost me mowing the lawn and weekly veggies that I had too many of. I just asked the people, who were elderly , if I could use their land for the summer and they were happy someone could use it. I bought the second parcel and have a beautiful garden on it every year. Good Luck to you.
