| After 20 years as a nursery retailer and grower I know that the normal nurseryman keeps his best sellers close to his vest, I have kind of noticed that here too. So let me be the first to share my absolute best seller at my 2 local markets. It's a flowering plant thats easy to grow. Lots of people cringe when they hear the name but I sell out every year at the markets and never had one left in the nursery at the end of the year either. Requires 55 degree heat after planting in early March can be planted into 4 inch pots or baskets from plugs (available from any broker of plug grower) costs about 45 cents comes in 72 cell trays, usually 4 tray minimum and sells for from 2.99 to 3.99 at the market.Requires at least a 25 foot greenhouse. I started marketing 3 years ago after retiring from the nursery business. Started with 420 the first year then 840 the second 1200 the next and will do 1600 this year. Since I only do 3 market days a week in spring and summer I will probably be maxed out this year.. Thats why I want to get some ideas from some of you other marketeers about what your best sellers are. So if you are interested in sharing with everyone else lets get the ball rolling and go into the new year a little wiser with some new ideas. I will gladly share the cultural info on my bestseller and help you find a supplier in your area. I am not selling anything here but would like to get some of your ideas about your bestsellers. And, as a few of us pointed out in your other post, we should share via this forum...it is not sharing if we email to one person! I think sharing here on the board helps everyone. |
