Master Gardeners and PA Farm Show

First, I have to thank Penn State for putting together a fantastic interactive display at the PA Farm Show this past week in Harrisburg! It was on Pesticide Education centered around mini golf and thousands went through the mini course. The booth was the hit of the entire farm show, in my opinion. I never realized how "in" Mr. Yuk was with the teen crowd these days, either...LOL.

The Master Gardeners played a key role in volunteering to staff the exhibit, provide information, and work with each visitor to learn from and enjoy their farm show experience. Master Gardeners are truly giving individuals, and to see them working with the families and kids going through the exhibit was priceless. The team effort by the entire Master Gardener group, and the other volunteers, was exemplary. The message to the public was more than Pesticide Education...it was about dedicated people sharing and caring about our future generations :)

Dicentra, I was at the Farm Show but I missed the MG display. Darn! I was looking for it but DH was in a hurry, so I had to rush through.

I saw the display but didn't realize that the Master Gardeners were staffing it. Wanted to take pictures to bring back home for our MGs since we are discussing a children's garden. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera the second day. There is so much walking to do that I shed anything with any weight, so the camera went.
Is there someone I could contact with questions about the display? I thought it was excellent.
Thanks for bringing up the topic!

Blueheron...there was so much to see at the Farm Show! The PSU Pesticide Exhibit was located in the main exhibition hall, about 50 feet from that fabulous butter sculpture and around the bend from the Longwood Gardens tent.

Carol...I know what you mean about shedding things to walk around the show. Wasn't the pesticide golf a neat exhibit!
Some of the Master Gardeners had really neat golf shirts in dark blue. I'd like one of those (oh, I'm still in training...LOL). Anyway, regarding contact info about the exhibit...
I met a fabulous person for the first time and she was terrific about the whole program! She was our contact for the exhibit, so you could get information from her. Below is an excerpt about her:

    Dr. Kerry Hoffman-Richards
    Pesticide Education Program
    Pennsylvania State University
    114 Buckhout Lab
    University Park, PA 16802-4506
    Telephone
    814-863-0263

"Kerry, the Pesticide Education Program's former coordinator, is now the of Manager of the Pest Management Information Center. Her responsibilities now include promoting informed pesticide regulatory decisions by the federal government and keeping Pennsylvania stakeholders abreast of regulatory changes. Kerry works with USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service to survey PA farm managers on pest management techniques. She then reports the economic impact of these techniques to the USDA and EPA as necessary. Kerry will continue her youth education work by developing IPM and pesticide safety curriculums for high school science and agriculture programs."
