What are you doing as a MG this year?

It's so slow on this forum I assume everybody is terribly busy doing their gardening and volunteering. If you've got a minute, tell us what projects you are involved in this year. Anything new and exciting or more of the same clinics and helpline calls?

I've been helping plan our MG symposium for 2007. We did one last year and it was a lot of fun and a great success. Hopefully next year will be even better. I love working the helpline, too. The variety of questions is always amazing. It stretches me and makes me learn more every time I work there.

Sandy, You are so right, it is amazingly slow on this forum and others on GardenWeb.
The main project I am involved with right now is relocating our Demonstration Garden. We put on many public programs on varied gardening topics over the years but we are moving due to two things: a problem with the city manager and excessive vandalism. the sunny area at the new location is not quite as large as before but the shady woodland is huge and has a big creek running through it. Others have planted things there in the past but I just put in 2 pawpaws and 2 hybrid persimmon trees that I grafted. My specialty is edible landscaping so I will be adding pineapple guava, blueberries, muscadines, figs, and kiwi to this area. About your symposium for 2007, give my website a look and see if any of my topics are suitable for your group. If you're going to the Southern Region MG Conference you will hear me speak there. My Yard Art slide presentation is a hoot.

I'm in my 10th year as a MG and there always seem to be opportunities. Last Monday I was part of a group presenting to other MGs a cooking class on compost. My part was the worm section. I am still doing that for the city and county at the public workshops. When I started I was lucky to have 1 or 2 people stay and now I have 20 or 30 stay to listen.

I also am involved in the MGTV and we have come along way since our first show. I will act as the interviewer on the next one being filmed for August and interview our tree specialist.

I also continue to write occasionally for the newspapers. My next article is the Easy Orchid, cymbidiums.

My first post on this forum -- certified just 2 months, a gardener for 25 years.

This morning I presented 17 students with JrMG certificates -- what a delight to work with young gardeners. Our program ran for 7 weeks and concluded with the children planting a perennial garden at their school. I hope to lead a Backyard Wildlife Program next year at the same school.

I participate in a Frog & Toad Survey of our local watershed, help maintain a historical garden, make floral arrangements for hospice, and volunteer at a farm market booth.

"Spare" time is spent in my own garden or those of neighbors. One day I hope to find time to write about some of these experiences.

My "out of the ordinary" projects this year includes a rain barrel building demonstration and helping a nearby city with their rain garden presentations (which included grants to buy plants!).
