MG Booth at the Farmers Market

Hello, our group has set up at the farmers market for the last several years. We have fact sheets available and answer questions for individuals that stop by. We would like to add more to our booth and I am wondering if any other group is involved with their local farmers market and if so what they are offering?

We are planing on having a booth this summer. For the first time, and there are only 4 MG's in the county. We are also wondering what all to offer. We thought brochures from the extension office and a question and answer format. Would be interested to hear what others are doing.

Sounds like a fun project! Do you have your sheets as PDFs that could be shared? Leasa

We staff booths at 3 different farmers' markets in our county -- one day a month because we don't have enough volunteers to staff more. Besides the usual IPM and pestnote hand-outs, we give out a list of drought tolerant and native plants that do well in our area.

We are lucky enough to be a growing goup. The extension office has offered evening classes the last 2 years and our group has grown by approximately 35 new members so we are really excited to be able to start doing more within our organization. I think the idea of having a list of native plants that do well in the area is an excellent idea and one that I will suggest that we implement. Thanks popazza!! Lease, Our fact sheets are from our county extension office and are specific for our area. You may want to check with your county extension office if you are looking for something in particular. Thanks all, and happy gardening!!

We man a booth every Saturday from May to August when farmers run out of produce. We answer questions, pick up soil samples to be sent in to the lab, have about thirty extension bulletins for hand out. We make a point to hand out Master Gardener literature.

This is our second year of having a MG booth at our local farmers market. We always hand out literature, answer questions, etc. However, last fall we took our left over plants that didn't sell at our plant sale, and we were very busy that morning. So we have decided to start taking gardening books, butterfly wheels, some small plants to start with and see how that does.

In Travis County, Texas, we don't have a regular booth at the various Farmer's Market locations but on occasion we advertise a "Plant Clinic" and ask people to bring in examples of problems (properly sealed up in zip lock bags), digital photos, etc. for us to look at and analyze. If we need to check further, we complete a "referral form" and take it back to the Ext. Ofc. for further analysis then call the party back with recommendations. From time to time various MG Specialist will staff a booth with information/demonstrations, such as plant propagation, fire wise, fire ants (you probably don't have those critters yet), oak wilt (you don't want that either), etc., depending on the season and public education outreach topics.
