Highspire, a beautiful 1894 Victorian Garden and Residence in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, is in DANGER of being DESTROYED! The local Streetscape Committee - who is charged with "beautifying" Berkeley Springs, West Virginia - has proposed a PARKING LOT to be built over One Entire Side of the Gardens at Highspire!

In May 2005 the WV MG included Highspire Gardens on their Garden Tour when the State Convention was held in Berkeley Springs, WV.

For the last 114 years, the land immediately adjacent to Highspire has been Greenspace and cultivated exclusively by the residents of Highspire. The current residents, the Byers family, have owned, beautified and maintained Highspire and the Gardens for the last 31 years.

The Town specifically denied ownership of the land in question in the 1970s, but now has changed their minds and plans to bulldoze numerous mature trees, roses, shrubs and habitat for what will result in only 6 finished parking spaces. Collateral damage will include an 85+ year old maple tree that is without dispute on the Byers' property, due to the bulldozer coming within 6 feet of the trunk of this massive tree and destroying the root system. Also 3/4 of the Rose Garden, the entire Xeriscape Garden and the Reflection Garden will be DESTROYED for the Parking Lot.

Go to my website http://www.highspiregardens.com to read about it. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION on my website to STOP construction of the Parking Lot and help save Highspire Gardens! CROSSPOST THE LINK to anyone who may be willing to oppose this madness! Only public outcry can stop this in time -- Please sign the Petition today!

Thank you for your caring and consideration!
