I hope someone can help me here. I am interested in some kind of memorial for my father, who passed away some years ago. I have seen benches along walking trails, in memory of .... and sometimes a small garden in a municipal area in memory of.....

I'd like to do this in his hometown, which is about 6 hours away.

How can I get started and what is the cost of things like a bench. (I 've seen benches with grafitti and other damage, so I'm kind of thinking small garden.) I think I could select plants and do the initial installation, but how can I keep it looking good, since I am not close enough to tend to it regularly? Do scout troops every work on such projects if I provided money for mulch, new plants etc.

What are the costs and/or red tape involved say for a municipal site? I had even thought about the church he went to, thinking they might have volunteers willing to look after such projects.

I searched online and didn't find any books or examples of how to. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
