Many better retail nurseries or garden centers will sponsor classes on pruning, either with their own staff members or guest speakers. However the timing is a bit off.....most of these relating to fruit trees will be offered in the winter months. I'd suggest you call around to some of the larger area nurseries and see what they might have scheduled. It may still be a bit early even for that - I've only just finished up our fall seminar and class schedule :-) Start looking in December and January.

Call your UCCE county extension for a list of fruit tree pruning classes, many are held in the fall in preparation for the January dormant pruning season. Al

Now that you ask the question, I might start some posts about that at...

www.treeworld.info

The forum is a bit big tree oriented, with some video. But fruit tree pruning might be a good addition.

I started a pruning tips section for another forum one time. But forum posts just don't replace a good lecture or demonstration.

RE: Workshop or class on fruit tree pruning.

A while back I saw an article in the Oakland tribune about a fruit tree pruning class. It was in Heather Farm Garden Center and I think they do it twice a year.

Elizabeth Ruiz, who gave the class, teaches in different places. She was really knowledgeable and gave lots of practical information about how to prune fruit trees in this area. She is from Merritt College (she studied there and now teaches in that College). Her next class is in San Francisco at Fort Mason Center in October 31 (see gowithnature.net for details).

I totally recommend it. The class is pretty affordable and your fruit trees will appreciate it; They will not only look pretty and healthy, but they will give you plenty of fruits!
