identify this plant

In fall potpourri there is a item that looks like a mini pumpkin. It's most likely painted orange but the natural color would be tan or light brown since I opened one to look at the seeds inside. what I would like to know is what this is. I would like to grow some but have no idea what to look for. Any help would be apprecitated.

It is a putka pod, the seedpod of a tropical tree native to India. When fully ripened, dried and dyed, they look exactly like mini pumpkins, which they are often called. They have no relationship to pumpkins, however.
