I read that it officially began in the state of Washington...that's cool but is it true?.....
I begin my first class tomorrow and will ask them, too...
looking forward to this next 10 weeks!

You read it but doubt it? Yes, that's true it started in Washington state and I would guess it was around 1976 or earlier.

The program began officially in 1973 in Washington State and has since spread to all 50 states and a few foreign countries. As a new MG-in-training, it might be valuable for you to peruse the WSU extension website and get a sense of the history of this program. Scroll down to the exerpt on the history and find out how the term "master gardener" originated.

Here is a link that might be useful: History of the MG program

Glad I came here tonight. I turned in my application today and await news next week that I'll be in the January class. Maybe it will impress the county agent, if I can spout some history of the program. ALice
