What to plant in a shady spot.

My tiny front porch faces West/South (more south than west I guess) and one side of the porch gets lots of late afternoon sun. So I planted alot of colorful flowers there, however, the other side of my porch doesn't seem to get any sun at all. No frilly flowers there. At first this didn't seem to bother me but now I realize how my porch is going to look on one side - bland. I have hosta, bleeding hearts and a couple other shading lovingly green plants but it's just not going to look the same. Will really look uneven I think. What can I do there to even the look out. Balance it. I don't want it to look too contrived though. Anybody have this problem? Ideas. I am aiming for a cottagey/unformed sort of thing. Maybe a small tree?
