renovating blueberries...

I thought to myself. Self..it's sunny, but a little windy, but today might STILL be a good day to start reno9vating those 2 old blueberry bushes way out back so they will produce better this year!!!

Well...took 2 steps and was in 18"+ snow still so quickly rethought that idea. Instead, I pulled off the old fans from the daylilies in the front beds...where the snow has receded, or about 1/2 the beds. This works well because I can see the weedy grass and pull that out early.

Voles or moles got to a few bulbs...looks like they took out my tulips, even though I planted them amongs daffodils.

Oh well..

I've never pruned blueberries OR grapes, so this year will be interesting to see just how much I mess things up!

I doubt you can mess them up too much! Just prune out the older wood and any dead stuff.

Isn't it a bummer about the snow? There are still places in my yard where I have gardens that are hard to get to due to snow. But the long-term forecast looks good, all 50s next week!

The snow is getting *old* real fast!
I am trying to add a few blueberries to my fruit order placed yesterday. That will give me 5 different plants, and, hopefully at least 1 plant will produce each year, likely starting next year or the year after.

I've gone a little crazy with gardening this winter...maybe it's all the snow we got starting sooo early! Suffice to say, there's no way I have the time to do all the gardening tasks I've commited myself to with all the seeds, trees, shrubs, etc.. I've ordered and/or started.

sigh

Well, I heavily trimmed bak the blueberry...cut off about 1/3 - 1/2 the canes on the blueberry and did a heavier pruning of the grapes. I may not get fruit off the grapes this year because of it, but they needed a major prune since they've never been pruned since planted 6 summers ago.

Oh well...the other blueberry will get pruned back next week when I should be able to get to it in the snow.
