PA Gardner Searching for ME Garden Center

| A friend of mine is moving to Dover Foxcroft soon and I'd like to get her a gift certificate to a good garden center/nursery where she can buy plants to spiff up her new home. I've searched in the FAQ's, but frankly, it's overwhelming since I have no idea how close the noted places are to Dover Foxcroft. Can one (or two or three) of you take pity on me and recommend a really nice place where I could purchase a GC for her? Thanks so much in advance!!

Bangor is not too far from Dover-Foxcroft: Sprague's Nursery http://www.spraguesnursery.com/ If your friend is willing to travel further, my personal preference would be Longfellow's in Augusta http://www.longfellowsgreenhouses.com/ Maybe some folks in the Bangor area have some additional suggestions. |

| Well, shoot. I was just out in Dover Foxcroft last week. I am SURE that it wouldn't have been too terribly difficult for me to poke around and find a garden center for you. But, I am in the Bangor area and I can highly recommend Sprague's Nursery (the poster above posted their link.) Always have a good inventory and the employees are super nice to work with. |

I live a couple of towns over from Dover. There are four very good greenhouses in Dover itself. First of all there is Foxcroft Agway. They just had the "grand opening" of their GH this past weekend. (I'm headed down there in a few minutes to pick up chicken feed and check out the greenhouse, of course) They sell everything, annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees. Also gardening tools, accessories and any other garden needs that you may have. They are probably the only ones that might sell gift certificates? Their ph # is 207-564-2730. They are open 7 days a week. Then there is The Berry Patch, Leaves and Blooms and Norton Hill Gardens. I have already hit Norton Hill and she has beautiful stuff. Today I'm going to check out Agway and Leaves and Blooms. How did your friend find Dover? My parents moved the family to the area when I was a small child from Jersey. They were both raised in NY. My Dad went back into the Army for a few more years after he had moved us here and during that time we moved around to a couple of other states (KS & VA) When I was old enough I also did a short "hitch" with the Army and lived in SC, TX and GA. I'll tell you....there is no place like Maine. So much more "laid back", you know, a slower pace of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else! Love to visit other parts of the country but give me Maine to live! :-) Hope your friend loves it here as much as I do. Cathy |
