Leptodermis oblongata

I am a beginner gardener. I have just ordered some leptodermis from a reputable online supplier. I want to plant them in the front of my house where there is sun from early morning until about noon.
My questions are: is that enough sun for them?
can I plant them right away even though the weather has been lousy and it's not that warm yet?
What is meant by cutting them back hard in the spring? I have been reading that and I am not sure about the differences in pruning, cutting, etc...
thanks!
