Suggestions for under crab apple ground cover?

Good Morning Everyone,

I was searching for some suggestions as to what to put under a crab apple tree on my front yard. Its a hassle to mow below the lowest limbs, my orginal thought last year was to plant a bunch of tulips under that, but in reality I dont think I want to create a bed under there as I would have lye down to do anything. Besided I dont think there is enough sun there, its partial at best.

My though was silver beacon lamium , however, will it be too much of a hassle to keep it out of my yard as well?

Thanks in advance.

Lamium is nice---you can just mow it if it spreads too far out of bounds. Lots of people like ajuga but we found it really does take over the lawn. I have also had good luck with violets---either the plain purple kind or the white, but there are also many other varities and colors. My favorite shade ground cover is sweet wooodruff---lovely foliage, little white starry flowers, and a wonderful smell when it is dried.

Creeping myrtle is also an alternative.
