Is it too late to plant veggie seeds now?

I mean I had planned to do it before but it just wont stop raining!!! I am thinking of carrots, beets, radishes, corn.

I am going looking for some plants for squash, zucchini and peppers.

I do this every year!! I say I am only going to do one potted tomato and cukes each. A few beans on the porch trellis.

Then I start reading and getting the fever.

Thanks for your input,
Heather in Newport

Heather,

Think of it as an early planting of a fall garden. (grin) Some corn varieties like Silver Queen are in the 90-day class and it might be too late for them. But early and some midseason corn varieties should still have a chance. I haven't planted my corn yet.

Everything else you mentioned should still be plantable. This rain is "putting a damper" on my gardening activities as well. My tomatilloes look like they want to go to Mexico, their native habitat. They don't like this cold rain.

Plant as soon as it dries up (if it EVER does!) We have planted as late as the 3rd week in June and still had reasonable crops. As long as we don't get an early frost, you should be okay. You might want to consider something like broccoli which can survive a pretty heavy frost.

NO, I will never plant broccoli again!
No one ever told me about the white worms. So I ate one head before I found out. Then I soaked them in the salt water and I didnt eat broccoli again for 2 years! GROSS! GROSS!
Broccoli seeds packets should come with a warning!

I think the elder President Bush agrees with you on that. (grin)
