I am finding it is such a bad insect year. My beloved carefree daylilies are being plaged by Japanese beetles and thrips. Anybody else having this problem and what to do?
I am located western Maine

RE: Daylilies

I only have a few daylilies, but so far they are free of bugs. I see that DeerWood Farm & Gardens in Waterford (583-2412: open daily 9-5) has Daylily Days going on right now from July 16 to Aug 7. The ad says he has over 7000 daylilies. He may be able to advise you. I have never been to this place but have heard good things about it. I want to go sometime. You can enter to win a Daylily Collection.

I can't say that I have really had the Japanese Beetle problem too bad this year. Pretty much just killed them every day with my hands and now they're gone.

I created an album with the daylilies that bloomed for me this year if you are interested in checking it out.

Hope you enjoy,
Kim

I have had some Japenese beetles around mainly my roses. I do see them on my daylilys but they only seem to be eating the flowers that have all ready bloomed.

Kim,
Your daylilies are wonderful. Really enjoyed veiwing them. I too have very acidic soil and it has been a chore to amend. Was really shocked when we were testing the soil to seed pasture for our horses that we needed to add 4 ton per acre to raise it to min ph 5.3 My daylilies seem to do well. You have been an inspiration to get them pictured and labeled.
Thanks for sharing,
lanie
