Brown Beetles

Posted by aunteyp (My Page) on

I have brown beetles eating some of my petunia's. I made one of those tipsy pots and the top pot is petunia's and the beetles seem to love those and the verbenia.
Any suggestions how to get rid of them?
I'm in a campground and my neighbor went and got us some kind of trap for our gardens but it's still in her car and she hassn't given it to me. I hope it works. I've heard dish soap works well too.
Also I'm waiting for some sales on perennials for a little shade garden. I'm still looking for something that will blossom up into Oct when we close up and head back to Massachusetts.

RE: Brown Beetles

Aunteyp,

Do the brown beetles look anything like this?

That is a Japanese Beetle. I "control" them by hand picking. I spare the ones with a white parasite fly egg on its thorax. Actually, the JB in the pic had a white egg, and was tossed into the woods to serve as a living nursery for the parasitic fly's baby maggot.
