Storing Gladiolus Bulbs

Posted by mainerose 4 (My Page) on

As my budget gets tighter, I am looking at ways to economize. I usually buy new bulbs every spring, but would like to start storing them over the winter. When should they be dug up? How should they be stored? (I have a cellar that stays about 45 degrees during the coldest weather.) I admit I'm completely ignorant about the process---help, please!

RE: Storing Gladiolus Bulbs

The first few years I grew Gladiolus I dug them up, put them in a paper bag and put them on a shelf in my basement. They grew just fine when I replanted them. After a few years I got lazy and left them in the ground and they still came up every year and occasionaly I have to divide them because they have reproduced.
