Cutting new plants back.

Should I be cutting my plants back? I have about ten different kinds of perennials that I just planted about a month ago.
I'm from Massachusetts and I'm heading home Monday.
We have a trailer in OOB and I have a small garden but I'm not sure if I should cut them back or just leave them until May when I return.
Thanks for any help.
Peg

Hello Peg;
What do you have for plants? Are you just getting them established? Most can wait until spring but some do better if they are cut back. Tell me what you have and I will give you my best advice. I live in Saco.
