Food and Stuff List for

the 2008 Spring MAG Swap

at Gardengrammas Gorgeous Encampment

This is the secret to our great swaps - those who don't bring PLANTS bring FOOD. Preferably homemade and loaded with calories 'cause it's tough work doing all that trading and socializing. Extra points for food with chocolate. And if you have no plants and no talent in the kitchen, we still need supplies, and drinks, and ice, and potato chips.....

Non-food Needs:

Self-adhesive labels for participants (Nothing fancy, old Floppy Disk labels work well, for example).

Charcoal and Lighter Fluid for Charcoal if you're planning to grill.

a few non-gardening husbands or partners to run the grill (makes 'em feel useful).

Utensils.

Napkins and Paper Towels.

Paper Plates-Paper or Plastic Cups.

Large Heavy Duty Garbage Bags for Clean-up.

(Let's give Gardengranma a break here:) Toilet Paper & Paper Towels.

Anything I've forgotten to list.

Food:

Beverages

Appetizers

Main Courses

Brownies

Other desserts

Condiments: Mustard, Relish, Catsup, salt & pepper.

Rolls if you're having hot dogs and burgers

Also, this is a great place to show off your very special recipes that your family won't touch, like lavender flavored shortbread or zucchini fudge or whatever - CAUSE IN THE INTERESTS OF BOTANICAL SCIENCE, WE'LL EAT IT!

(Directions are here but you can MapQuest:

15716 Allnutt Lane

Burtonsville, MD, 20866)

Questions? just include them in your post here, or feel free to post them here. Someone will surely jump in!

Have fun finding new homes for your surplus plants and discovering new plants you didn't know you needed!

Wishing everyone a great swap! Happy gardening!

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

I will cover the self-adhesive labels. About how many do we need? I have a 36 pack each of plastic spoons and forks so I'll bring those. Will also make chocolate truffles. How many people usually show up? (I need a truffle count.)

Diana Lynn, don't kill yourself trying to make enough to feed everyone. The last couple of swaps attracted 70 or 80 people, and enough food to feed an army, so don't worry too much about it.

I'm not sure what I'll bring at this point. Either a chocolate rum cake, or if we already have too many desserts, my usual chicken biryani and raita (onion/tomato).

Suja

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

"too many desserts"? Are you crazy?

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

Pasta salad and either Texas Sheetcake or brownies.

Jen

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

I'll bring my usual: babaganoush with pomegranate seeds & tabouli salad and pita bread.

Jette

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

I'll bring a load of my red velvet cupcakes.

The kind with real chocolate and natural red color.

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

Hot dogs and rolls as always! 40 or so. Someone else will need to bring condiments as I'm a purist.

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

I have a boatload of cups and plates left over from the last swap, plus half a box of labels for your IDing pleasure.
Not sure what foodstuff I'll bring yet.

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

I'll bring curried almond cranberry couscous .

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

Hi,
I'm new to the swap but can't wait to come! I can bring a couple dozen burger patties, buns, and one of those trio condiment packs. And a hubby to cook. :)

amy

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

I will just bring plates and cups plus a lot of labels.
(My energy level has not been the greatest; I will find out tomorrow whether or not there is a medical cause.)

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

I'm bringing either broccoli ramen salad or cabbage/apple/walnut salad.

Beth

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

RE: have: food and stuff list for the 2008 spring mag swap

I just got a new recipe for Sherry Peppercorn biscuits (read "cookies") from an English friend, so you folks get to be guinea pigs. I'm also bringing a seedless watermelon.
