2010 Spring MAG Swap: Plants you Have List

Saturday May 8, 2010 from 10am to 1pm

at GardengrammaƂs Gorgeous Encampment

DIRECTIONS for the HAVES list:

  • If you're new to the swaps, please take the time and have the courtesy to read these posts. They're here to help everyone have a good time.
  • Yes, you can come if you don't have any plants. Your assignment will be to bring brownies food. Anything chocolate that you'd normally bring to a pot luck will be fine. Food & other contributions can be discussed under the MAG SPRING SWAP FOOD thread. Please chit-chat about it there, not here.
  • Post a list of the plants you HAVE on this thread, ideally with Latin names as best you can to avoid confusion, and cultivar names if they have them.

This thread is not for your Wants. :) That's what the MAG Spring Swap: Plants you Want thread is for.

  • Yes, Please also list other garden stuff, such as seeds, tools or books, or all things Garden that you wish to swap or give away. Another man's trash....
  • Read other people's lists. If you see things you want and would like to swap or trade for, e-mail the person directly to arrange it. Do that via private email by clicking on your person's name at the top of their post.
Do NOT arrange the swap or trade on this thread, please.
  • Do update your posting here and your member page with your Haves and Wants; feel free to link your post here to any Plant Exchange page you may have.
  • This is important:

When you bring your plants, MARK RESERVED PLANTS (i.e., plants for which you have a pre-arranged swap). LABEL your plants if possible. We often forget which was what by the time we get them home! Popsicle stick, plastic spoons, or other "plantable markers" are great, as they can be popped right in to the ground along with the plant.

At the swap, please do NOT take anything that is labeled for someone else, or is NOT labeled "Free" or "Please Take." Ask. That's all you have to do.

  • Questions? just include them in your post here, but please don't ask something addressed a gudzillion times. If you're asking and the answer is here, I'm going to know you've not appreciated my epic work.
  • Have fun finding new homes for your surplus plants and discovering new plants you didn't know you needed!

Did I forget anything? Of course! So, let me know so I can fix it!

Wishing everyone a great swap! Happy gardening,

    Here's a start:

Strawberries: not sure of variety, but they have flowers already

Columbines: These came up in the compost pile -either I tossed some seedlings or some seeds. Possibly A. alpina (blue) or maroon. I should know soon.

Peonies: named varieties in pots. Smallish, but will be fine in the long run. Crinkled white, Sword Dancer, Nippon Moon, Pink Lemonade

    Yarrow: Summer berries

I have a caryopteris I will dig if someone wants it. It is languishing under a maple at my house.

I've also got a good-sized clump of geranium macrorrhizum I transplanted last fall just for the swap and forgot about! This plant doesn't transplant particularly well, so I hope the clump will do OK for someone since it's had months to stabilize after being divided.

  • leslies

    Forgot to mention:

the hardwood cuttings of 'Madonna' sambucus are leafing out, so they probably have some roots. They're available! This is a big shrub. The mailorder plant descriptions say it blooms and sets fruit the way regular sambucus does, but I've never seen this one with flowers. Maybe mine isn't old enough yet (it's three years old).

All my anemone have been spoken for.

I'll throw some composted manure in all the holes when I dig them up for the swap and I'll bet we have 20 new plants to share next year!

I'm so excited for the swap. I already have more than 20 people bringing plants for me and I've agreed to bring more than fifty plants to trade.

For labels: I'm using old plastic mini blinds that are cut to the right size. I still need a good idea for containers.

Many thanks to the Granma for hosting and the other organizers!

    Mahonia japonica seedlings
    Cleome seedlings (huge supply)

Spreads by runners; relatively easy to control:
Lily of the valley (good supply)
    Ostrich fern (good supply)

    Euphorbia robbiae (lime-green flower)
    Spearmint
    Peppermint

    Vinca w/purple flowers (3-5, in 3.5" pots)

An acquaintance of mine is downsizing from a house to an apartment, and she invited me to check out what was going to the curb. I stuffed the car full.

I'll classify this as "Useful plastic junk that's a PITA to buy but is great to get for free".

Gardengramma gets first pick, Janet M gets second pick, Professor Dirt gets third pick.

After that, it's up for grabs.

In addition to the upthread stuff, I've got:

    snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis) bulbs
Heliopsis (perennial sunflower) 'Flore Pleno' divisions

And, for the invasives connoisseurs, a boltonia that's pretty in the fall but way too imperialistic for the place I have it. If anyone wants some (or a LOT), I'll dig it the morning of the swap.

I just checked my garden and I have a few more things to share:
    oregano
    thyme
    money plant
Sunberry (Solanum Burbankii) - I like to grow different things and had high hopes for these (waiting for my blueberries to mature) but do not like the taste. Here is a description: SUNBERRY was bred in the early 1900s by Luther Burbank (1849-1926) and it is not at all related to huckleberry or blueberry to which it is sometimes compared. The fruit is purplish-black when ripe and the size of peas. The flavor is akin to blueberries but less sweet. But cooked in pies and jams it is yummy! The small shrub grows 12"-24" but remarkably can begin bearing fruit when only a few inches high

    Privet
wild ornamental invasive strawberry (yellow flowers)
Asters (blue, exact latin variety; don't know)
    Morning glory (invasive blue/purple)
    chinese garlic chives
    mint (spearmint, peppermint)
    raspberry (red; variety not known)
    yarrow (white achillea millefolium proa)
    Shiso/Perilla (purple Japanese Aka?)
    tansy (tanacetum vulgare)

    Volunteer saplings:

    Hello everybody!

I have been so behind on everything that I finally get myself together to make this posting. I have not dug anything yet! If you find something on my Have list that you are interested in, let me know. Maybe we can make a trade? What I need the most are part shade plants for my backyard. Interesting shrubs and deer resistant plants are welcomed.

    Thanks!

There's a catch here - that I need to know by Wednesday night if anyone wants these as I have to dig them at my mother's house on Thursday. Email me through Gardenweb.

Hi, Here is what I have, # of plants would be very limited, may have 1 or 2 only due to small backyard gardening practice. Won't be available for many, my apologies in advance.

.Mophead hydrangea, pink, big one, can easily divide to 2-3 bushes, will need to dig, bring only if anyone wants it. Mary gets one already.

.Hardy Hibiscus, Rose Mallow, Swamp Mallow
    Hibiscus moscheutos

    .Okra seedling or seeds

.fig potted, need to find the variety. from UC Davis cutting last year. Survived the winter with protection outdoor.

.Chive, garlic type, the one Asian use for cooking, have seeds too.

.Pepper seedling, medium hot long type.

    .Beard iris
.(3-5) common lily, yellow or blue

.(1) One potted tropical Hibiscus, small but already flowered once.
    H. rosa-sinensis' Full, Ruffly Double
    http://www.trop-hibiscus.com/gindr.html

. Asparagus roots, 5 to 7 roots available (from Mary, garden type, not house plant)

    What I can get plenty:
.planting pots, usually the smaller sizes, 3", 4", 8", up to 1-2 gallon plastic pots that you usually get from nursery buying plants. Some slightly larger ones might be available too. Will bring larger ones only if someone ask for them and my car space allows. Let me know by Tuesday night so I can grab some Wednesday morning. Will bring some anyway. Anyone contacted me in advance get the ones reserved though.

If you have any that's on my wanted list, I'd love to trade. Please check out my wanted list :

OK, I have moved to a new house. This house has asphalt & turf. that's it. therefore, I have:

-2 Gillete Fusion Razors, new in their cases (come with 2 sets of cartriges.) You can use these to shave in the garden :-) If anyone wants one, I'll bring them to the SWAP to trade something. They are expensive, and a great gift item!

In addition to the trades that I've already set up I'm also bringing a bunch of WS tomato seedlings for anyone who would like them. There are about a dozen varieties - everything from Blondkopfchen yellow grade tomatoes to Great White and Kentucky Dinnerplate. I've also got some NOID silene which I think is pink.

  • Ann

Also found several small seedlings from my weeping japanese maple tree - since this is a graft I know the seedlings will not come true to the parent tree. These seem to be all green with deeply cut leaves. Let me know if you're interested and I will dig these.

  • diana_lynn

Trades are getting slimmer. I've been weeding out the plants I don't want over the past few years and haven't got enough of the plants I like to be able to divide much. Hope that changes in a year or two!

    I can bring:

    My seed stash
    1 black walnut seedling
Daylilies (unknown type but definitely not ditch lilies)
    Mums (yellow)
    Black eyed susans
    Grape hyacinth bulbs
    Lycoris bulbs
    Small flowered coreopsis seedlings
Russian sage cuttings (roots easily in water during the spring)
Star of Bethlehem bulbs (can be VERY invasive and is very poisonous to dogs and cats but perhaps in a pot it wouldn't be too bad)
    Hyacinthoides (wood hyacinth)-white

I may not get to dig all of these (time is getting short), so let me know if you want something and I'll make sure I bring it.

In a last ditch effort to place some plants before they have no home...

Does anyone want some double feverfew? I've got two plants that are in their 2nd or 3rd year and bloomed nicely last year.
