Food and Stuff List for

the 2010 Spring MAG Swap

at Gardengrammas Gorgeous Encampment

As mentioned on another thread, we really need people to commit to main dishes and non-food items. We really do LOVE the chocolate, but 15 different forms of this food of the gods is a bit much.

This is the secret to our great swaps - those who don't bring PLANTS bring FOOD. Preferably homemade and loaded with calories 'cause it's tough work doing all that trading and socializing. Extra points for food with chocolate. And if you have no plants and no talent in the kitchen, we still need supplies, and drinks, and ice, and potato chips.....

Non-food Needs:

Self-adhesive labels for participants (Nothing fancy, old Floppy Disk labels work well, for example).

Charcoal and Lighter Fluid for Charcoal if you're planning to grill.

a few non-gardening husbands or partners to run the grill (makes 'em feel useful).

Utensils.

Napkins and Paper Towels.

Paper Plates-Paper or Plastic Cups.

Large Heavy Duty Garbage Bags for Clean-up.

(Let's give Gardengranma a break here:) Toilet Paper & Paper Towels.

Anything I've forgotten to list.

Food:

Beverages

Appetizers

Main Courses

Some form of meat for the carnivores in the group

Brownies, fudge, cookies, cupcakes, muffins

Other desserts

Condiments: Mustard, Relish, Ketchup, salt & pepper.

Rolls if you're having hot dogs and burgers

Hot dogs and burgers

Also, this is a great place to show off your very special recipes that your family won't touch, like lavender flavored shortbread or zucchini fudge or whateverÂCAUSE IN THE INTERESTS OF BOTANICAL SCIENCE, WE'LL EAT IT!

There will be power for crockpots, a microwave for reheating, and a refrigerator for cold items until we are ready to eat.

(Directions are here but you can MapQuest, Bing, or GoogleMap:

15716 Allnutt Lane

Burtonsville, MD, 20866)

Questions? just include them in your post here, or feel free to post them here. Someone will surely jump in!

Have fun finding new homes for your surplus plants and discovering new plants you didn't know you needed!

Wishing everyone a great swap! Happy gardening!

I have a large box of plastic flatware, cups and plates. Donated by a kind Freecycler.

RE: wanted: food and stuff list for the 2010 spring mag swap

(Is 15 different kinds of chocolate too much, in general, or is 15 different kinds of chocolate too much to leave as leftovers for the Gardengranma family? Maybe the rule should be: you have to take the leftovers home with you (chocolate or no chocolate)?)

RE: wanted: food and stuff list for the 2010 spring mag swap

gee.... I was thinking about bringing a "dirt cake" (oreo cookie, and gooey chocolate) like I did last year. but after the above comments, I am kinda afraid to offer it :)

RE: wanted: food and stuff list for the 2010 spring mag swap

Hey! I like the salads! :-)))

Can we clarify what is still *needed* versus *nice to include*?

Trying to figure out what to bring here...

RE: wanted: food and stuff list for the 2010 spring mag swap

More vegetables? More toilet paper?

RE: wanted: food and stuff list for the 2010 spring mag swap

No more salads!? All right, I'll bring cheese and crackers or something equally uninspired.

RE: wanted: food and stuff list for the 2010 spring mag swap

I'm doing my Costco run on Wednesday, is there anything else we need?
Just want to double-check. I'm presuming there will be grill equipment on site?
If not, then my alternate food to bring is -- cooked rotisserie chicken & rolls.

Let me know.

Jette

RE: wanted: food and stuff list for the 2010 spring mag swap

I can bring paper towels and a casserole or rice dish. Any preference to vegetarian or otherwise?

dirt cake yes

I missed gardentenderfoot's excellent dirt cake in the list above. Just didn't want you to think it isn't needed!

RE: wanted: food and stuff list for the 2010 spring mag swap

I will bring roasted or grilled veggies on Saturday.

RE: wanted: food and stuff list for the 2010 spring mag swap

Couldn't seem to figure out what wasn't covered. But I've got it now--

DRINKS-- 2 root beer, 2 Sprite, 2 orange soda, 1 cooler mint iced tea.

Sound okay?

I just found a recipe for a coconut lemon bundt cake that I want to try out, so that instead of brownies. I'll also bring a package of hot dogs for the grill.

RE: wanted: food and stuff list for the 2010 spring mag swap

The Dessert To Be Named Later will be my father's world-famous gingerbread.

I always thought that gardening was a good healthy activity until I read through the desserts coming to the SWAP! I can only hope that I have more willpower with the desserts than I will with the plants...

RE: wanted: food and stuff list for the 2010 spring mag swap

My husband (who loves to bake) is going to try out a new dessert. Last year he sent a banana pumpkin pie. Sounds strange, but tasted good. He is still deciding...
