2007 Fall MAG Swap: Plants You Have List

DIRECTIONS for the HAVES list:

  • If you're new to the swaps, please take the time and have the courtesy to read these posts. They're here to help everyone have a good time.
  • Yes, you can come if you don't have any plants. Your assignment will be to bring brownies food. Anything chocolate that you'd normally bring to a pot luck will be fine. Food & other contributions can be discussed under the MAG SPRING SWAP FOOD thread. Please chit-chat about it there, not here.
  • Post a list of the plants you HAVE on this thread, ideally with Latin names as best you can to avoid confusion, and cultivar names if they have them.

This thread is not for your Wants. :-) That's what the MAG Spring Swap: Plants you Want thread is for.

  • Yes, Please also list other garden stuff, such as seeds, tools or books, or all things Garden that you wish to swap or give away. Another man's trash....
  • Read other people's lists. If you see things you want and would like to swap or trade for, e-mail the person directly to arrange it. Do that via private email by clicking on your person's name at the top of their post.
Do NOT arrange the swap or trade on this thread, please.
  • Do update your posting here and your member page with your Haves and Wants; feel free to link your post here to any Plant Exchange page you may have.
  • This is important:

When you bring your plants, MARK RESERVED PLANTS (i.e., plants for which you have a pre-arranged swap). LABEL your plants if possible. We often forget which was what by the time we get them home! Popsicle stick, plastic spoons, or other "plantable markers" are great, as they can be popped right in to the ground along with the plant.

At the swap, please do NOT take anything that is labeled for someone else, or is NOT labeled "Free" or "Please Take." Ask. That's all you have to do.

  • Questions? just include them in your post here, but please don't ask something addressed a gudzillion times. If you're asking and the answer is here, I'm going to know you've not appreciated my epic work.
  • Have fun finding new homes for your surplus plants and discovering new plants you didn't know you needed!

Did I forget anything? Of course! So, let me know so I can fix it!

Wishing everyone a great swap! Happy gardening!

I finally bit the bullet - or more accurately wielded the shovel like a weapon - and cracked the pot that the variegated agave had outgrown. I removed 6 or more pups from it. The mother plant came from Variegated Foliage Nursery in CT in 2005. These agaves grow quickly. I've transplanted the mom to a larger pot and will be vigilent about aborting new progeny before they crowd the new pot out. This variety is hardy only to zone 9, but can be overwintered in gh or a good sunny window. Makes a terrific full sun pot plant in summer. Always looks good!

Here's the mother plant after transplant surgery:

And here are the pups, just popped into a trough to pot up later:

    {{gwi:174207}}

I've created a new account just for swapping. If you'd like me to put your name on one of the pups, send me an email at alwaysthegarden at comcast dot net.

I'll be bringing a good number of brugs and other tropical plants (rooted and cuttings). I don't have access to a heated greenhouse this year so everything tropical is going to have to be stored semi-dorm. I'll also have seeds for a good number of species. I'll have an update in a few hours with actual species.
    Peace,

I can't make the swap but Cathy is planning on coming, so stop by to see what random stuff of of my trade list we're giving away. I do know I'd like to find a home for a couple of tall ironweed babies (Vernonia gigantea, the main plant grows to about 12 feet) plus a Dipladenia (tropical vine similar to mandevilla) that I can never get to flower.

For the very first time, I can't come. Family issues, life, other obligations.

I will be sending stuff with LynneMD, though, all for the grabbing.

    Northern Sea Oats
If I can dig them out, I'll have Ornamental Grasses:

I hope everyone has fun and drinks a pop to me! :)

pitcher plant that gets 4" to 6" pitchers - don't know how to propogate these, but think it is done through cuttings.

I usually have alot of trades lined up and spend a lot of time running around looking for people, so I thought I would just list what I am bringing and put it out by my car this time and it will be a first come, first served, unless someone wants something specifically from my listhere or on my member page that I can dig especially for you, and in that case I will mark it for you and you can come pick it up by my car.

I don't have a ton of stuff since I'm still getting things established, but do have:

-solid green clumping liriope, purple blossoms
    -strong peppermint (cuttings)
    -lemon mint (cuttings)
-iris - these are a large deeeep purple/blue blossom, but this year there was also one deep raspberry/purple blossom as well, so I'm not quite sure what will happen but it needs to be split so I'll be bringing some
-I think there are some Rose of Sharon (pink/raspberryish) voluteers that can be pulled/dug if anyone wants them
-thistles if anyone wants them, they grew from birdseed and I'm always pulling them up.

Boy, was I confused! I thought the swap was in October.

Quick - here's my "have" list:

shasta daisies - seed-grown, second year. They bloomed this summer and got pretty large. I have 8 or 9 of these.

peony - unknown cultivar. The plant was in the garden when I moved there, but it was where I wanted to put a tree. Tall foliage, double, creamy white flowers. Late season.

exochorda shrublets. Seed-grown starts of pearlbush - a healthy, well behaved shrub that blooms prettily in the spring and is not particularly noticeable the rest of the year.

yellow rose. I got this at a prior swap and my guess is that it's 'Harison's Yellow'. Extremely thorny, cascading double yellow flowers with a very long bloom season, beginning very early in the spring. Has an unusual fragrance that I like a lot, but not everyone will (it isn't called rosa foetida for nothing!)

'Darlow's Enigma' I have one for Suja and one more for anyone who wants it. Big rose, intensely fragrant, all-summer bloomer, no disease. That's right - no disease.

sedum 'Frosty Morn' - several rooted, potted cuttings.

spirea - bridal wreath. This may be a named cultivar, but if it is, I've forgotten the cultivar name. Good-sized potted shrub.

sidalcea - second year plant from seed. Took a beating with all the dry weather, but it's not quite dead!

I can dig raspberries. Plants are bearing well in their first season in my garden, but they are definitely not ornamental.

I don't have a lot, and I'm not sure how much time I'll have to dig stuff up this week, but if folks express interest in something there will be a greater likelihood that I'll bring it!

    Plants:

Hemerocallis fulva: Tawny daylily - just your common ditch variety. I could bring a garbage bag full of them.

Allium cepa proliferum: Egyptian onion. I think they're the Catawissa variety, as the topsets have topsets.

Fragaria x ananassa 'Tristar': Everbearing strawberries

    Seeds:

    Abelmoschus esculentus 'Clemson Spineless': Okra.

    Coriandrum sativum: Coriander/cilantro

Datura stramonium: Jimson weed. Volunteer. I think it came from some horse manure. Big 4'x4' annual with many single lavender-tinged white trumpet flowers ~4" long followed by spiny pods. Very poisonous, and either very interesting or very ugly depending on your perspective!

Echinacea purpurea: Purple coneflower. perennial unknown variety. I got the plants from a friend a few years ago. Seed should have some viability as I've had volunteer seedlings. I don't know if I'll get to separate much of the seed, but I can at least bring some seed heads, and leave enough behind for the birds.

Lunaria annua: Money plant. Volunteer. 2' tall annual w/ pink flowers in spring followed by decorative flat pods with a shiny inner membrane.

I may be able to bring some other seeds, including sage, lemon balm, horehound, chervil, and dill. I also have some volunteer seedlings of black cherry, Virginia creeper, black mulberry, and honey locust I could dig up if anyone is interested.
