2008 Fall MAG Swap: Plants you Have List

Sunday, September 14, at 10 am (ish) at Black Hill Regional Park in Boyds, Maryland

DIRECTIONS for the HAVES list:

  • If you're new to the swaps, please take the time and have the courtesy to read these posts. They're here to help everyone have a good time.
  • Yes, you can come if you don't have any plants. Your assignment will be to bring brownies food. Anything chocolate that you'd normally bring to a pot luck will be fine. Food & other contributions can be discussed under the MAG SPRING SWAP FOOD thread. Please chit-chat about it there, not here.
  • Post a list of the plants you HAVE on this thread, ideally with Latin names as best you can to avoid confusion, and cultivar names if they have them.

This thread is not for your Wants. :) That's what the MAG Spring Swap: Plants you Want thread is for.

  • Yes, Please also list other garden stuff, such as seeds, tools or books, or all things Garden that you wish to swap or give away. Another man's trash....
  • Read other people's lists. If you see things you want and would like to swap or trade for, e-mail the person directly to arrange it. Do that via private email by clicking on your person's name at the top of their post.
Do NOT arrange the swap or trade on this thread, please.
  • Do update your posting here and your member page with your Haves and Wants; feel free to link your post here to any Plant Exchange page you may have.
  • This is important:

When you bring your plants, MARK RESERVED PLANTS (i.e., plants for which you have a pre-arranged swap). LABEL your plants if possible. We often forget which was what by the time we get them home! Popsicle stick, plastic spoons, or other "plantable markers" are great, as they can be popped right in to the ground along with the plant.

At the swap, please do NOT take anything that is labeled for someone else, or is NOT labeled "Free" or "Please Take." Ask. That's all you have to do.

  • Questions? just include them in your post here, but please don't ask something addressed a gudzillion times. If you're asking and the answer is here, I'm going to know you've not appreciated my epic work.
  • Have fun finding new homes for your surplus plants and discovering new plants you didn't know you needed!

Did I forget anything? Of course! So, let me know so I can fix it!

Wishing everyone a great swap! Happy gardening!

    flowering quince
    sedum, Autumn Joy
    peony, festiva maxima
maybe other peonies, if I get ambitious
5ft tall pink weeping cherry tree (grown on its own roots so it will have a beautiful graceful form)
this assumes I will be able to figure out how to get it into the car

Fennel seeds--this is not the fennel that thickens into a braisable vegetable. It's the one whose foliage and seeds you use to add licorice flavor to whatever you are making. Aka anise, it is a beautiful perennial and can grow over 5 ft tall if it is happy. I dislike the licorice taste but black swallowtail butterfly caterpillars will eat this plant and leave my dill and parsley alone.

    cosmos seeds--bright lights

    I have:

Homemade self-watering containers made out of pickle/egg buckets. Probably some 4 gallon + 2 reservoir and 2 gallon + 2 reservoir. A couple of each size.

Leftover pieces - most of a "container watering" or small garden set, plus some drip hose, plus a few adjustable low flow sprinkler heads. It doesn't work for gravity-fed container gardening, unless you add on a timer.

Fine pine bark mulch - about 1/4" x 1/2" x 1" pieces. I have a 2 cu ft plus an open 2 cu ft bag - probably about 1 cu ft left. They were $3.99 each

Fedco seeds - split seed packets that I ordered. 2008 seeds.

swallow eggplant - small trade 10 or 20 seeds?

3666SW Swallow Eggplant (51 days) F-1 hybrid. DonÂt believe you can grow eggplant in this cold part of the world? Swallow could make you a believer because it is early, producing glossy purple-black tender fruit of the elongated (1-3/4x7") oriental type without the bitterness often associated with larger eggplants. No wonder it was our most popular eggplant with sales of nearly 1,200 packets last year.

mache - trade hundreds or even thousands?

3102VC Verte de Cambrai Mâche (45 days) A small-seeded small-leaved strain which performs especially well in cool or cold conditions and is the best kind for over-wintering. May be the same variety Thomas Jefferson grew in 1810 under the name Candia.

    thai basil .5 g =.018g = 324 trade maybe 50-100 in a batch?

4470TB Thai Basil This basil lends the distinctly strong licorice-anise flavor to Thai food. An attractive 12-18" fine-leaved plant with purple stems, seed heads and flowers. Good container plant as well. 60 days to harvest.

I have some sugar snap peas (maybe trade 20-50? I have ~100)and bought some nitrogen activator, but can't find the activator.

Ferry Morse $.99 basic packets for 2008 of: grand rapids tipburn resistant lettuce (800 mg) , bloomsdale long standing spinach (2.0 g) cauliflower Early snowball A (245mg) radish sparkler (1.50 g) Broccoli De Cicco (800mg)
