Ordering from High Country Gardens?

Hi, I live in zone 6, central NJ. For many years I have been very tempted to order from High Country Gardens. I see that they mostly have positive online reviews, their catalog is beautiful, and they offer some plants I want that I can't find elsewhere. BUT I have not ordered from them because I'm afraid that their stock, having been raised in a Western climate, would not do well here in the Northeast. I'm just wondering - does anybody here have any experience with them? (Of course, if I DO order from them, I would only order plants that they say are ok to grow outside of the west!)

Any advice you can give would be most helpful - thanks in advance!

I've had nothing but good luck ordering from HCG. Their packaging is custom designed and keeps the plants in place. They are headquartered in Santa Fe, New Mexico, which is zone 6a, so they have been grown in a hardiness zone similiar to yours. Just make sure you can match the plants water requirements. Their lavender was far superior to anything I could purchase locally - and I was in plant nursery heaven in the Hudson Valley of NY! Now that we've moved to Northern Virginia, you can bet that I'll be submitting a big fat order this year. Happy shopping!

I LOVE them. HCG and Bluestone Perennials are my two favorite online vendors. Go for it!

I concur; Hight Country Gardens is a great place to order from. I got some lavender from them last year, and plan to order more shortly. Their catalog also got me interested in penstemon, and they carry autumn sage, which has been attracting a hummingbird to my parents' back door for 2 years. They have lots of neat stuff that few others carry.

I really like HCG, BUT be careful *when* you order. I have received plants that turned to mush en route because it got too hot inside the package. Same thing happened with the replacement that they sent!
