Hi Christine. Yes we are all iced up here in Perry Hall. And wouldn't you know it last night on the way to work my heater gave out. Started some ageratum and flax under lights yesterday. Iremember everybody wanted those at last spring plant swap. But you are right, COME ON SPRING. Steve in Baltimore County.

Christine: You do keep asking for precipitation...I guess you were not specific enough that it should not come in the form of ice! I hate to say it but the ice was very light at my house. A coating on the cars and the snow was very heavy and crusty, but I saw very little ice on trees and shrubs. I had expected to see Bradford Pear limbs all over the roadways, but looks like the pears have survived another winter...at least so far.

Sorry you lost your tree. I didn't lose anything but have a yard full of branches to collect when I can walk outside without breaking my neck! At least this wasn't as bad as the ice storm that we had about 5 years ago. My power stayed on through this one!

My Mom moved from Rochester NY to southern California after a huge icestorm about 10 years back that stripped out maples as you describe and wreaked havoc on the beautiful lilacs Highland Park had been famous for. She says she looked at all that mess and said, "what am I doing here in the cold when my kids are all grown and flown?"

But Richard keeps muttering how soft we southerners are here -- my big chunk of New England granite went out in the back yard last night in jeans and a light sweater, and spent about an hour lying on his back on the crusted ice admiring the stars and "becoming one with the winter." Brrrrr! I was less amused when he came back inside and tried to transfer some of his Zen feeling to me -- that was one cold hug!
