sunflower seed hulls killing the hosta!

I understand NOW after much web searching that the hulls from black oil sunflower seeds are allelopathic-basically killing off my hosta and pachasandra under the birdfeeder. We decided to put river rock under the feeder to fill the dead plant area but now the die-off is really spreading! Is there any way to fix the soil or neutralize the area so the pach and hosta can come back? Do I have to dig everything up and replant? I was hoping there were soil ammendments I could add as a fix. I have searched everywhere online for an answer but nothing-any help out there? I am in Cherry Hill, NJ but I don't think location matters for this problem. Seems like lots of people found out the hard way like me. Of course, no more sunflower seeds in my feeders.

Thanks to anyone with info!

Cathy
