Azaleas flower and are evergreen. Of course, they're planted to the point of tedium here and really aren't very interesting when they're not in bloom. There are other flowering evergreens, like pieris, but, on the limited information you've provided, I have no idea whether they'd be appropriate for your situation. You need to indicate what the sun exposure is, what the soil is like, and how much room you have, at a minimum.

Ok gotchya. The front of my house faces east and gets full morning sun. The soil quality it terrible. Just clay. We were thinking of digging up everything we have and mixing in a couple loads of mushroom compost and replant. I am not sure what you mean by how much rooms we have? As much is needed. No restrictions. In the google searches I have done it does not seem that there is a shrub out there that fulfills what I wish ... so it seems I will have to pick a shrub that maybe adds more interest than the usual boxwood.

Morning sun is good. If you don't want to just plant boxwoods then don't just plant boxwoods. Why does everything have to be evergreen? A mix of evergreen and deciduous is nice -- and far more interesting than a wall of boxwoods. Mix in a couple of hydrangeas or red twig dogwoods or itea. There are many choices.

And I'm quite sure you do have restrictions on how much room you have since unlimited space for a foundation planting is pretty much unheard of. What's the square footage of the area you want to plant in? Some shrubs are naturally more compact, others take pruning well (assuming you do get out there and prune them) and others look ridiculous if pruned. Size matters.

I do like the idea of creating interest by having more than 1 kind of shrub or flowering plant like hydrangeas. What about knock out roses? I like that it has relatively low maintenance.
