grass take-over

Hi - I have a long perennial bed that has been taken over by a very long, fine type of grass that has been impossible to keep at bay. I'm now at the point of digging the whole thing up, which i dread, because my back is starting to tell me that heavy gardening is not a good idea. Some of the plants have held their own against this grass (Japanese anemone), but it's been difficult to contain, anyway. Does anyone have any ideas on a rescue plan? I've got irises, lilies, daffodils, tulips, moss phlox, foxglove, etc., in there, and I'm not sure if there's an easier way to separate the grass from the plants other than to untangle the roots by hand. Thanks for any suggestions!

Susan
